Understanding Compassion Fatigue & Sustainability Through Caring
For Veterinary Medicine and Allied Animal Professionals
1.5 hr workshop for groups around 10 people
In high-impact helping roles, caring deeply is part of the job, but over time, it can begin to drain our resources. This interactive workshop explores the mechanisms behind compassion fatigue and offers practical, research-informed tools to help professionals sustain their work without sacrificing their well-being.
Participants will learn how compassion fatigue develops—not as a personal failure, but as a natural response to prolonged exposure to suffering—and how it differs from burnout, secondary traumatic stress, and vicarious trauma. The session normalizes the emotional realities of caregiving while helping attendees recognize early warning signs across emotional, physical, cognitive, and behavioral domains.
Through engaging discussion and skill-building, this workshop focuses on what actually helps. Participants will also explore the critical shift from draining to sustaining approaches, along with practical tips for maintaining meaning, resilience, and balance in demanding environments.
Designed especially for professionals in animal care and other helping fields, this session emphasizes sustainability over survival... because your work matters, and so does your ability to keep doing it.
My goal is to make workshops accessible for teams. Reach out to discuss workshop availability, scheduling & fee structure for veterinary clinic teams and animal shelters.
